FAVORITE
web site

THE SUBMISSION DEADLINE FOR THE MAY 2019 FESTIVAL IS NOVEMBER 12, 2018. YOUR SUBMISSION MUST BE POSTMARKED BY THAT DATE FOR CONSIDERATION.

SUBMISSION: The Northport One-Act Play Festival is a wonderful opportunity to showcase one-act plays and offer the theater community an opportunity to produce a performance of those plays.

There is NO FEE to submit an application and play for consideration to be in the Festival. You may submit up to 2 plays for the Festival. A separate application must accompany each play submitted.

JUDGING/PARTICIPATION: Plays submitted for the Festival will be reviewed by our panel of judges. The plays may also be read during a meeting at the Northport Reader’s Theater, if time allows, prior to the selection deadline. Playwrights whose plays are presented at a Reader’s Theater meeting will be invited to attend. Playwrights will be notified on or about December 15, 2018 if their play is chosen for the Festival. At that time, each playwright must submit A PARTICIPATION FEE of $75.00 per accepted script, which will help defray some of the expenses – e.g. space rental, printing, and publicity - with the Release Agreement by January 1, 2019. Playwrights will receive one complimentary ticket to each Performance of their play plus a DVD.

Important: The Northport One-Act Play Festival is held in a church. Please consider the language and situations used in your script. If you feel that your play is not appropriate for younger audiences, please let us know so that we are aware of this.

IMPORTANT REQUIREMENTS FOR SUBMITTING YOUR SCRIPT (Please be sure to include):

4) Include the Setting that your play occurs (i.e., an apartment in NYC.) and the Time (i.e. the
Present.). This information will be used in the program.

5) Note: Ease of production is also considered as part of a play’s possible selection for the
Festival. We recommend one simple set and no complicated props, sound or lighting
requirements. You will be permitted to have opening and closing music;

6) Also submit a digital copy of your script, either on a CD included with the script, or by email
to NorthportPlays@gmail.com.

7) Please include a Self Addressed Stamped Postcard if you would like notification that we have
received your script.

The 2019 Northport One-Act Play Festival will be held at St Paul’s United Methodist Church, 270 Main St, Northport, NY 11768.

We request that you be available to attend your play’s performances if at all possible. An Open Discussion with the playwrights, directors, and cast will follow each performance if time allows.

PRODUCING YOUR PLAY:

1. REMEMBER: If you do not produce your own play, a group from the local theater community will be doing so. That group must find space to conduct their own rehearsals. The Northport One-Act Play Festival will provide for One (1) cue-to-cue technical rehearsal, which will last no longer than 20 minutes in the theater during the week preceding the Festival. There will also be One (1) dress rehearsal on the stage. All rehearsals are scheduled in the order that plays will be presented in the Festival. Each program consists of up to 7 plays. A mandatory preview on April 13th will be scheduled, and must be attended by Director and actors. Half-hour time slots will be offered between 1:00 and 7:00pm.

2. LIGHTING AND SOUND: There will be a basic lighting plot that all plays in the Festival use. Any additional equipment (i.e., microphone, musical instruments, etc.) must be provided by the Directors of the play. Any music/sound effects must be on CD or sent as an MP3 file and supplied by preview day, April 13th along with stage manager, sound and lighting cue scripts.

3. SETS: We will assist in any way possible to provide basic sets, but keep the scenery and props to a minimum. Any plans to use a large set piece to support the production must be mentioned to the producers of the play before April 13th. Your cast will be asked to help clear your set after each performance.

4. RUNNING TIME: It is very important that you give us the running time of your play so we can accurately put together the running time of each Program. The maximum running time for a play in the Festival is 20 minutes. Any play going longer in rehearsal will require some editing. The minimum running time is 7 minutes.

5. REHEARSALS: Directors and cast must be available to present their play to Festival producers April 13th (time to be determined) so that the producers are aware of its current running time and readiness for the Festival. Note: Producers may request the directors to have playwrights make edits to reduce the running time of the play at this point if it is determined that it will run past 20 minutes. Directors and cast must attend tech and dress rehearsals on the dates assigned during the week preceding the Festival.

6. ACTORS: If asked, management can assist in casting by providing contact information to appropriate actors and publicizing your auditions. You must send descriptions of open roles e.g. age, sex, etc.

7. PERFORMANCES: All plays will be assigned to either Program 1 or Program 2. Program 1 will be performed the evening of Friday, May 3rd and the matinee of Saturday, May 4th. Program 2 will be performed on the evening of Saturday, April May 4th and the matinee of Sunday, May 5th.

8. TASTE OF THE FEST: A performance of the plays chosen by the Festival Organizers as “A Taste of the Fest” will be invited to perform at the Northport Library on Sunday, May 19th at 2:00pm, followed by a discussion with the playwrights, directors and cast.

9. No Royalties or other monetary compensations are given for these performances.

TBT seeks plays by Latinx writers featuring Latinx characters

FAVORITE
web site

TBT is dedicated to producing staged readings of full-length new work. For our purposes, "new work" means that the play has never been fully produced. Previous readings and workshops do not render the piece ineligible. We are creating a forum for conversation, and as such we are seeking plays that raise questions about pertinent social, political, or environmental issues of our time.

The next call for submissions is open through October 31. We are seeking plays by Latinx writers, featuring Latinx characters. As always, submitted plays should touch on pressing social, political, and/or environmental issues.

At the beginning of November, we will commence our play selection process. We will announce the chosen play in January. The reading will take place in Santa Ana, California in Spring 2019. While we highly encourage playwrights to attend the reading of their play, we understand that it may be impractical or impossible in some cases and do not require it. We encourage both local and non-local playwrights to submit.

In addition to a desire to foster conversation within our diverse community, TBT also seeks to support new voices in American theatre and local artists. As such, the playwright of the selected work will receive a writer's fee and will not be responsible for the payment of actors and directors nor the rental of spaces. Please note that TBT cannot provide any additional funds for travel or lodging, though we may be able to help arrange either.

To submit your play for consideration, click this SUBMISSION FORM link. Be prepared to answer some basic questions about you, your play, and the important issues your story addresses. You will be asked to upload your full script in PDF form, and we ask that you include a title page and use the file name format LASTNAME_TITLE.pdf.

PLEASE READ THESE ELIGIBILITY GUIDELINES CAREFULLY. ANY SUBMISSION THAT DOES NOT FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED. These guidelines will also be posted directly on the submission form.

Talk Back Theatre currently accepts submissions via Google Forms. If you do not have a Google account or prefer not to submit through Google, you may email us for an application form to submit to us directly. DO NOT EMAIL YOUR SCRIPT WITHOUT AN APPLICATION FORM. It will not be accepted.

1. Submissions must address or highlight a pertinent social, political, or environmental issue.
Use your best judgement when selecting a play. Think about what important issues the audience and panel might discuss after the reading. Examples of topics might include immigration, women's rights, gun violence, political corruption, racial justice, disability rights, or LGBTQIA* equality, just to name a few.

2. Playwrights should identify as Latinx and the play should feature at least one Latinx character.
This time around we are seeking plays specifically representing a Latinx voice. Please do not submit your work unless you identify as Latinx.

3. Plays must be in English or up to equal parts English and Spanish.
We are not currently accepting submissions that are Spanish-only, but encourage scripts that are bilingual.

4. Submissions must be full-length plays.
This includes plays of one or more acts that are not significantly shorter that 75 pages. We are seeking plays that are over one hour in performance. This excludes 10-minute plays, stand-alone scenes, and one-act plays significantly shorter than 75 pages. We do not currently accept musicals.

5. Submissions must be unproduced scripts.
For our purposes, previous workshop performances or staged readings do not count as productions.

6. Submissions must NOT be one-person shows.
Talk Back Theatre is not currently producing readings that feature only one performer, even if that piece fits the other guidelines listed.

7. Submissions should NOT rely heavily on extensive movement/dance or media (projections, music, etc.).

Scripts are not disqualified for including any of these elements. However, our readings have minimal blocking and we cannot accept scripts that require dance or other serious movement (including fight choreography), nor can we accept scripts the require projections or other media, including music. If you do not believe your script can or should be presented without any of these elements, please choose a different play to submit.

    THE ANNUAL PARITY COMMISSION 2018

    FAVORITE
    web site

Beyond our annual productions, in concert with our mission to see more cis women and trans and gender nonconforming (TGNC) artists employed in the theatre, we award two commissions per year to cis women and TGNC playwrights who have demonstrated a singular talent for storytelling. The selected playwrights will receive $2,500 each.

Parity Productions reads submissions blind, selecting work that is in harmony with our artistic mission. Playwrights will receive regular feedback on their commissioned work within 30 days of their submission of a first and second draft. They will also receive one “closed door” reading (attended by cast, Parity Productions Artistic Director, and literary department) and at least one public reading and/or developmental production of the commissioned work. An option for Parity Productions to produce the work is included in The Commission agreement.

How do I submit my work to Parity Productions?

    You can SUBMIT HERE.

Script submissions are open now until 11:59PM Eastern on October 31st, 2018.

Please reach out to us at team@parityproductions.org with any questions.

It is requested that all playwrights submit two full-length plays. Please indicate in the form which play you are submitting for commission/production consideration and which play you are submitting as a writing sample. If two plays have not been completed, then playwrights can submit one full-length play and no fewer than 25 pages of a second play (or alternate form of fiction writing) as a minimum requirement for submission.

The Parity Commission is open to all cis women and trans and gender nonconforming (TGNC) playwrights. All scripts submitted to us by cis women and TGNC playwrights during our submission period and that fit the requirements outlined below will automatically be considered for The Parity Commission.

Any work that is submitted to Parity must adhere to these submission criteria:

    Please note

    (1) Plays submitted for consideration must be new and may not have had a previous professional production (either Equity or non-Equity). Submitted plays that have been previously produced will not be read. However, works that have had readings or workshops may be submitted.

    (2) All documents must be submitted in PDF format. Your script must be neat and formatted to industry standard (e.g., Sam French, Dramatists Guild, or Final Draft format).

    (3) Do not put the play title or your name on any page but the title page. Submissions with title or playwright name on any page but the title page will not be read.

    (4) If you have submitted a particular play to us before, resubmission is welcome. We encourage you, however, to have evolved the piece in between submission periods.

    What happens after I submit?
Once a submission is received, any information as to the playwright's identity will be removed so that the literary team can "blind" read all scripts.

What happens if my work is selected?
You will be contacted by Parity Productions directly.

Please reach out to us at team@parityproductions.org with any questions.

    Two Steps Forward Monologue Festival

    FAVORITE
    web site

Forward Theater is now accepting submissions for our Two Steps Forward Monologue Festival. All writers are welcome to submit. The deadline for submissions is October 31, 2018. Monologues selected for the festival will be announced on or before April 1, 2019, and performances will take place in June of 2019.

Progress. Onward movement. Gradual betterment. A journey forward. The Wisconsin progressive ideal has been all of these things and more… and also less. The idea began simply enough: honest government that responds to the needs of the people. And like all good ideas, it grew. The Wisconsin progressive ideal has delivered workers’ compensation, limited the working hours for children, and created forest and water conservation acts. This progressive ideal ratified the 19th Amendment for women suffrage and elected the first openly gay US senator. But like all journeys, the path is rarely smooth or straight. The KKK marched through the streets of Madison in 1924, Senator McCarthy dismantled careers and destroyed lives in the 1950s, and Milwaukee and other cities struggled with segregated neighborhoods and schools well into the present day.

As artists we understand that the journey onward requires an honest look back and within. Help us shine a light on Wisconsin’s progressive successes and regressive failures so we as a community can take our next step—forward.

As you consider what to write, please be as creative as possible! Your monologue might be from the point of view of a crusader for change. Or from that of someone impacted by change (positively or negatively). It could be set in our past, present, or future. It could take the tone of comedy, tragedy, mystery, or farce. Our goal is to produce a wildly diverse evening of theater, so let your imaginations run free!

    GUIDELINES FOR MONOLOGUE SUBMISSION
    • Monologues should be inspired by the theme: Two Steps Forward.
    • Monologues must be between two and ten minutes in length. A general rule of thumb for length of scripts is a maximum of six pages, double-spaced, using a standard format (twelve point font). All lengths of up to ten minutes will be considered.
    • Monologues must be written for a single actor to perform.
    • We do not accept musical submissions, adaptations, or children’s plays.
    • Monologues should require very simple production values: set-pieces, props, or any other effects needing set-up, strike, or special technical support may disadvantage an otherwise excellent submission.
    • Each playwright may submit up to two scripts with no fee. For each additional script, there is a $5 reading fee, payable by check to Forward Theater Company. Checks may be sent to Forward Theater Company, PO Box 14574, Madison, WI 53708.
    • We are soliciting new work for premiere productions. If the piece has previously received a fully-realized production, do NOT submit.
    • Each script must include a title page with name, address, phone number and e-mail address. Please do NOT list your name anywhere on or within the monologue itself.
    • Submit scripts via e-mail ONLY to monologues@forwardtheater.com. Please use the subject line “Monologue festival submission.”
    • E-Submissions will be accepted until midnight on October 31, 2018.
    • Entries will be acknowledged by e-mail once they have been received. Due to the volume of scripts submitted, we are unable to offer feedback.
    • Winning scripts will be announced on our web site, on or before April 1st, 2019. Winning playwrights will be notified via email or phone on or before this date.
    • Writers will be credited in marketing and playbill materials and will receive a $100 total royalty for the Festival performances. Playwrights are entitled to two complimentary tickets to the opening performance.
If you have questions that are not covered by the info above, please email kmoeller@forwardtheater.com.

Where are the artists who turn the rules, forms and aesthetics of the theatre upside down, challenge them, think differently and develop new texts, forms and formats?

Under the heading “What happens after the protest?” Stückemarkt is searching for work that goes beyond descriptions of a status quo, imagines possible futures and seeks new forms of artistic-activist interference. For the  first time Stückemarkt is asking artists worldwide to submit work addressing questions that go further than romanticizing revolts but rather pursue the question of what other worlds could possibly look like.

Theatre texts can be submitted in English or German.

    2. Theatre projects / performances: these should be fully completed.

SUBMISSIONS FOR THE 2019 SEASON OF MACH 33

    FAVORITE
    web site

Caltech Theater and the Pasadena Playhouse announce the call for submissions of new plays for the 7th annual MACH 33: The Caltech│Pasadena Playhouse Festival of New Science-Driven Plays to take place in May of 2019! This year we are opening our call to include playwrights from across the United States.

MACH 33: The Caltech│Pasadena Playhouse Festival of New Science-Driven Plays energizes the conversations about scientific, mathematical, and technological questions by staging readings of new, unpublished, unproduced science-based plays. The readings are open to the public and present a discussion with Caltech/JPL scientific panelists after the show. Our casts and crews feature professional actors and directors as well as students and members of the Caltech/JPL community. Festival playwrights have the unique opportunity to work with science advisors from Caltech and JPL and dramaturgs from the Pasadena Playhouse. We are particularly excited to receive submissions from women playwrights, playwrights of color, and playwrights from the Greater Los Angeles area.

The deadline for submissions is October 30, 2018.

Send to Associate Artistic Director & Literary Manager of the festival Arden Thomas at mach33@pasadenaplayhouse.org.

Eligible submissions must meet the following criteria:

The playwright must be available to meet with the science advisor, dramaturg, and director before the staged reading in May in person or via Skype or other video-conferencing platform.

    Full length play

Never before published or professionally produced (may have received staged readings with actors on book and minimal staging effects)

Centers on science-driven questions (see below for details)

    Additional requirements for submission:

All plays must be submitted electronically in PDF format only with Title (no Author Name anywhere on the document) and brief synopsis of the play (200-word maximum).

All submissions must include an additional PDF with Play Title, Author Name, Date of most recent revision, and Contact Information.

In your submission, please include a short paragraph explaining specifically how working at Caltech will help you develop the science in your play -- you may even want to look at the Caltech website to see if there’s a department that would be particularly helpful for you to work with.

Send to mach33@pasadenaplayhouse.org no later than October 30, 2018.

What does it mean to be "science-driven"? A science-driven play has a scientific, mathematical, or technological theme, and features some or all of the following elements:

The science is integral to the play. Science is not just a background effect, a metaphor, or only briefly mentioned. Instead, the scientific theme directly affects the world of the play.

The audience leaves the theater with a better appreciation of how science works, and of our connections to science.

The play challenges and broadens the view of science, mathematics, and technology in the popular imagination.

The play features main characters who are scientists, mathematicians, or engineers, and whose work drives the play.

The science is not science fiction but is real-world science or technology, even if set against a fictional backdrop.

A panel of readers —  from both scientific and theatrical backgrounds —  will choose the plays to be produced at the festival.

Questions? Email Arden Thomas at arden.e.thomas@gmail.com, or Brian Brophy at brophy@caltech.edu.

Produced by the Over Our Head Players at Racine’s Sixth Street Theatre

Official Rules, Application, and Script information

The Snowdance® 10 Minute Comedy Festival is a festival of original comedies that run 10 minutes or less.   Submitted scripts will be judged by the Snowdance Selection Committee.  A selection of scripts will be chosen for production during the Snowdance Festival in the winter of 2019. These selections will round out a complete performance.  Audiences attending Snowdance performances will have the ability to vote for the production they enjoyed the most.  The votes will be tallied throughout the five-week festival run, and the Snowdance “Best in Snow” will be awarded to the winning playwright after the final performance on February 25, 2019.  Cash award of $500.00 to “Best in Snow,” with $200.00 awards to second place and $100 for third place.

    * Through November 1st   - Call for scripts.
    * November - Scripts chosen for production will be announced.
    * January 25 – February 24, 2019 - Run of festival performances.
    * February 24, 2019 (immediately after final performance) - Announcement of “Best in Snow.”

To enter a script, please follow these steps.

#1- Competition is open to original 10 minute or shorter plays free of royalty and copyright restrictions.  Submission is considered to be approval to produce the piece without royalty if selected for production in the Snowdance Festival.   Musicals, adaptations, and translations will not be considered.

#2- Plays must run 10 minutes or less.  A rule of thumb - 1 page (8 1/2 x 11) of single spaced, average dialogue will total about 90 seconds. Read it out loud - time it – test it – and re-write if need be.

#3- Submissions must be postmarked on or before November 1st 2018.

#4- Manuscripts must be on standard 8-1/2” x 11” paper, cleanly typed and securely bound.  Scripts should follow standard format.  (Check any scriptwriting book in your library)

#5 – Plays can have a cast of 1 to 5 characters and should be easily staged.  Avoid any elaborate set requirements.    And remember it is a ‘COMEDY FESTIVAL’.

#6- The writer’s name, address, phone number, and e-mail address (if applicable) should be included on the title page and only the title page.  The title page should also include a cast list, set requirements, and a 1 to 3 sentence synopsis of the play.

#7 –Submit one (1) copy of your script.

    #8 - Send scripts to:
    SNOWDANCE
    C/O Sixth Street Theatre
    318 Sixth Street
    Racine, Wisconsin  53403

#9 - Any questions can be directed to Rich Smith at (262) 632-6802 or by e-mail at snowdance318@gmail.com.

    * Plays selected for the festival will be produced by Over Our Head Players.

Selected plays will be presented as staged readings in the Zaidi Black Box Theatre March – June 2019.  The selected playwrights are required to attend the readings and to participate in discussions with the audience.

One-act plays and shorter scripts will be considered, in addition to full-length scripts.

Body of email that contains attached script MUST BE FORMATTED EXACTLY AS FOLLOWS :

The goal of the Villagers New Playwrights Series is to provide playwrights with an opportunity to glimpse the performance potential of their works in progress. Additional goals are to provide alternative performance opportunities for our local actors and directors and to expose our local audiences to new works. All submissions will be considered for their potential to fulfill these goals. Due to the fact that Villagers programs are supported, in part, by funds from the New Jersey State Council of the Arts/ Department of State (a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts, and administered by the Somerset County Cultural & Heritage Commission through the State/County Partnership Local Arts Program), preference will be given to New Jersey resident playwrights.

    In this episode we:
    • explore aspects of Orson Welles infamous version of World of the Wars, including his interview with H. G. Wells which was recorded in 1940 - both men try to downplay the panic response to the broadcast because Hitler was attempting to use it for anti-democracy propaganda;
    • hear the reading of the very creepy LOVERBOY by Michael Jalbert and the interview with the playwright afterwards in which we talk about how Roy Cohn's career as a character in ANGELS IN AMERICA has evolved thanks to his connection to Donald Trump as well as how real life provides its own supernatural horror.

New Plays for Young Audiences seeks new unpublished and unproduced full-length play scripts

    FAVORITE
    web site

New Plays for Young Audiences seeks new unpublished and unproduced full-length play scripts for young audiences for our 22nd season, June 2019. The final date that submissions for 2019 will be accepted is October 31, 2018.

    Submission Guidelines:

In your email submission, please include your name, the name of the play, and where we can contact you.

Also include in your submission your goals for the week of development – questions about the script you hope to answer, characters you want to further develop, story areas you want to look closer at, etc. Scripts received without goals are automatically disqualified, as this is an important part of our process.

If you are submitting an adaptation, we ask that you include proof that the original author has agreed to you adapting their work.

Finally, also rank, from most to least preferred, the development week that works best for you. We cannot guarantee a preferred slot, but this information will help facilitate the scheduling process once scripts are selected. The 2019 series is slated to run in three one-week segments: June 2-9, June 9-16, and June 16-23.

Please note that we only accept previously unpublished and unproduced full-length play scripts. If your script has had a fully produced production, we cannot accept it. We accept musical submissions, but do not generally develop a musical every season. If you are uncertain if your script meets this requirement or believe there is cause for an exemption, feel free to contact us (David Montgomery or Teresa Fisher).

We welcome scripts of any cast size, but are limited to 10 actors due to the size of our stage. If your script requires more than 10 actors, include doubling suggestions with your submission.

To submit your new previously unpublished and unproduced play for young audiences for consideration in our 2019 series, send your script between July 1 and October 31, 2018, to Producer/Production Manager, Teresa Fisher - taf263@nyu.edu

We reply to all submissions within 7 days of receiving them.

Please put “Winterl One Act Play Competition” in the subject heading.

We will contact you within a week as to your acceptance.

Plays that we love will be accepted on a First-Come First-Served basis.

The earlier you submit the better chances you have of being accepted for we may end submissions before December 3, if we fill up all available performance slots

There is no submission fee. NON-EQUITY ONLY.

Each play will be given a MINIMUM of THREE performances, with THREE more performances if your play moves on to the finals.

Once accepted, there will be a $175.00 participation fee.

There will be NO additional security fees or Manhattan Repertory Theatre based production fees.

Follows is an overview of how the competition will be run and what will be expected from each creative team participating. We have run these competitions now for a number of years now and they are always great fun, and pretty exciting too.

This Fall, we are simplifying the voting process so that it is crazy fair to all and easy to understand.

There will be 6 performance series with 5 plays in each series so we are only accepting 30 plays.

Each performance series will consist of 5 plays in each series. The 1 play from each performance series that scores the highest will go on to the Finals Thursday January 31, Friday February 1 and Saturday February 2 at 9 pm  So there will be six plays in the Finals. The one play that scores the highest for the three Finals performances will win the $1000 grand prize which is awarded that night.

The voting here is done by audience ballot where each play in a performance series is rated from 5 to 1 in order of preference with no duplicates - 5 being the best. (6 to 1 for the Finals.) The voting is crowd-sourced in a way that prevents the play with the most friends from ALWAYS winning. We like that. It still helps to invite friends but bringing the most friends does not guarantee entrance into the finals. A great play will!!

Another one of the things that we do that we feel is very important is that we organize and run the tech for the show so that in each performance series of 6 plays everything flows smoothly creating a professional show. We supply a technician and we run all the tech. All the scene changes between shows are orchestrated so that they are 60 seconds or less, so that the audience does not have to go crazy waiting as actors set the set for 10 minutes or more, like in other competitions in town. We create a slick professional show so that all the shows in each performance series can showcase their work in a professional context.

Lastly, we orchestrate the performance times at this competition so that there is MEET and GREET time after your performance, so you are not RUN right out of the theatre which occurs all the time at festivals throughout New York and, yes, this is super important to us too... we keep our theatre and our dressing room super CLEAN for audience and actors alike. It is part of our mission to keep our space clean for the artists who are working here. (Some theatres in NYC are downright scary for they have never been dusted in years!)

So come have some fun with us this Winter. We just finished our Fall competition and it was awesome. Wonderful plays. Wonderful creative artists! And we had a gas!

Over 10,000 theatre artists have developed their work at Manhattan Rep since September 2005.

    Please join the fun.

Should your script be selected and produced as one of the six finalists, you must be available to attend the weekend festival (July 19-21, 2019) and participate in all events. Finalists must acknowledge the Dayton Playhouse when script is published. The winning playwright awards the Dayton Playhouse the option to produce the winning play as part of its main stage season royalty free.

    AWARDS
A $1000 honorarium will be awarded to the winning playwright; runners-up each receive $100. The Dayton Playhouse provides the six finalists travel (within the continental U.S.) to Dayton and housing for FutureFest weekend.

    SELECTION PROCESS
Each entry is guaranteed a minimum of five reads. The original play reading committee, following many months of discussion and voting, narrows down the entries to 15 – 18, which are then read by the entire committee before they select the 12 semi-finalists. A second committee selects the six finalists. During FutureFest weekend, the plays are staged and publicly adjudicated by a panel of five theatre professionals (New York based and regional).  Following the final production of the weekend, the adjudicators vote and select the winner.

    FINALISTS
Finalists will be posted on the Dayton Playhouse website (www.daytonplayhouse.com) by May 2019.

For the first time this year, we will be awarding cash prizes to our winners. Each of our three winners will receive $550.

If sending a hard copy, please number the pages and staple or paperclip your submission. Send hard copies to Genie Ford, 3803 Bayside Circle, Bradenton, FL 34210.  Include a self-addressed stamped envelope if you would like confirmation of receipt—or include your email address and I will write to you.

COFFEE & WHISKEY PRODUCTIONS (Chicago) seeks plays

    FAVORITE
    web site

    — SCRIPT PUB SUBMISSIONS ARE CURRENTLY OPEN
SUBMISSION WINDOW CLOSES ON OCTOBER 30, 2018 —

Are you a playwright with a new full-length thing (between, say, 75 and 100-ish pages) that you want to hear read aloud by talented actors? Are you ready to take the next step in your play’s development? Well we want to hear from you! Coffee & Whiskey Productions is now accepting submissions on a rolling basis for the Coffee & Whiskey Script Pub, our play reading series. We’re interested in everything– if it’s unproduced and entertaining, send it our way. We have no restrictions on content, no problems with your goddamned potty mouth, and don’t mind genre work. We only want to make some of the best freakin’ theatre out there, whatever form it takes. We especially delight in all things funny, off-beat, and just plain weird, but we’re ready to tackle whatever you’ve got. Sci-fi? No problem! Magical Realism? Can do! Gritty Family Drama? Bring it! Wagnerian Epic about Joe Paterno descending the Nine Levels of Nittany Lion Hell*? Sure, why the hell not!

(Oh, one very important thing to note: we can’t do musicals at this time. If your play has a song or two, we can probably work with it, but full on musical theatre is out. Sorry!)

Please send all script submissions electronically, to scripts [at] coffeeandwhiskeyproductions [dot] com; use the subject line “Script Pub Submission: [title of the play]”, so we know what to do with it. Be sure to include a synopsis of the play, as well as a brief bio and contact information. We prefer the PDF format, but if you have some kind of ethical issue with that, just let us know and we’ll see what we can finagle. We try to respond as quickly as possible to all submissions, but give us 8 weeks (well, 8-sh; call it two months) to review your work. If it’s been more than a couple of months and you haven’t heard back from us, please send us a friendly follow up inquiry. And if you have any questions at all about the process, the Script Pub, or Coffee & Whiskey in general, feel free to shoot us an email, or contact us on Facebook.

Good Luck, and see you at the Script Pub!
